This album, originally released in 1978, is a collaboration between musician Dennis Bovell and famed dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. Linton was a British Black Panther activist and journalist throughout the 1970s and 80s. He also published several award winning books of poetry, including Inglan Is a Bitch and Dread Beat an’ Blood, the latter of which became the source material for this record. Linton’s darkling poems detail the bloody clashes between police and black youth in urban Britain. His moody and relentless wording is perfectly matched by the sinister dub rhythms of Bovell.
