Gall and Gainsburg

In 1963 the teenage singer France Gall met aging songwriter Serge Gainsburg. Gall was young and naive, just starting out in the yé yé scene - a French young girl group movement originating with the radio programme "Salut les Copains." Gainsburg's career was faltering, due in part to the dark sexual and morbid twists that were emerging in his work. They hit it off immediately.

Gainsburg was obsessed with Gall's naive sexuality. He began guiding her through the music business as well as writing her dirty songs full of deceptively sweet innuendo. His infamous song "Les Sucettes," which Gall recorded in 1966, left her embarrassed and disgraced when she finally sorted out the implications of the lyrics. Here are a few of their nicer songs:
