One of Billie Holiday's closest companions during her Harlem nightclub days was her dog Mister. Mister was sometimes aggressive with other people. But him and Billie were thick as thieves. He would accompany her everywhere. When Billie was at the bar he would always be there sitting under her chair or next to her in the booth. He waited patiently when she was with a man. Once when Billie wasn't feeling well, a friend of hers offered to pick up her groceries. Billie gave her the list which read: gin, cigarettes, dog food.
