Tamla-Motown

In 1959, Berry Gordy formed Tamla Records (later known as Motown). The first group he signed was The Matadors (later known as The Miracles). The group's lead singer, Smokey Robinson, went on to great fame.

The Supremes were the stars of Motown. Their lead singer, Diana Ross, dated Gordy. And their stardom and the attention lavished upon them made other Motown acts jealous.

My World Is Empty Without You

Ronnie White of The Miracles discovered Little Stevie Wonder, a young blind kid playing on a street corner in Detroit. He was signed to Motown at the age of eleven.

Marvin Gaye got his start in the doo-wop band, The Moonglows. His good looks and beautiful voice earned him the title, "Prince of Motown."
